First weekend shift on colorectal ~  perhaps not the total nightmare I imagined.

I only had 38 px instead of the usual >70.  Although 2 got very sick, and 1 RIP.  I went to check the body for pacemaker in case I'm asked to sign cremation form later.... still felt a bit freaked out by it.  Haven't seen a deceased body for a long time.

Practically got no senior support during the day as they were all busy in theatre.  Weekend is a bad time to be in hospital.

Yesterday ~  the longest operation I've ever seen as a medical student - 9:30am - 4:30pm.  Incidental finding of bile duct cancer after lap chole, have to go in again, cut through all the adhesions and remove the rest of the duct and part of the liver, then do a hepatojejunostomy for bile drainage.  Manage to see quite a lot of what was going on cos there weren't too many students around.

Today ~ 再接再厲, 不過今次仲麻煩. 我地睇左一陣就鼠去食lunch同去opd. big mistake.  Dr 要我地diagnose extra reanl pheochromocytoma from CT alone, 跟住又問 carcinomas of appendix.  Vascular clinic 點會問呢 d o架 . KO.

聽日大醫生bedside teaching.  好驚!

(有睇house gei 人應該對pheochromocytoma很熟悉.)

Seen 15 different colours of Jaundice in one day.  Met many nice people, including an old acquintance from IC.  Even stayed for ad hoc lecture till 7:30pm.  Exhausted.

There's so much more community spirit amongst the students at PWH than IC.  Probably partly because of smaller class size, and that they can live in halls for final year.  AND they can wear scrubs and trainers to firms, so comfortable!

PS JO! I'm still writing!

PACES exam over!!  Think it went ok, but there were a few questions I couldn't really answer.  I was lucky in that my circuit had some quite straight forward stations.  Unless I got the wrong end of the stick completely of course.

I can understand why they say it's more true to real life situation... take a history, present back to consultant, they grill you about investigations and you say " I don't know" a lot....

Don't know what to do now, feel a bit lost.  May be I should start revising for finals!
